Who is the instructor?
Hi! My name is Ocean.
-
- Master’s degree in Women’s Health Physiotherapy
-
- Worked with and listened to, countless pregnant/postnatal women & support people
-
- Mother of two. Experienced very different pregnancies and births
-
- Taught prep for birth classes in public/private/online settings. Most were collaborative with midwives who rotated through a teaching roster. Hearing so many different takes really helped to broaden my understanding
-
- Witnessed uncomplicated and complicated births during university
I truly believe there are no blanket rules when it comes to birth. If you understand 'the game' you can play it your way, to your own best advantage. Get yourselves a 'toolkit' of strategies, understand the pros and cons of different situations. That way you can catch whatever curve balls birth may throw at you.
Everyone is warmly welcomed regardless of their background or birth preferences.
I love teaching these classes! Hope you can join us :)

I DO
- Honest, evidence-based information
- Interpret necessary medical jargon
- Provide a wide variety of strategies and explain their principles so that you can choose your favourites & adapt on the day
- Leave you feeling reassured & empowered to make your own informed choices
I DO NOT
- Try to convince you to give birth a certain way
- Give a boring, confusing, irrelevant lecture
- Fear-monger
- Withhold information to 'shelter you' from anxiety. People prefer knowing which risks they choose to accept, rather than finding out afterwards that something may have been preventable if they were more informed

“It was actually really good!
I was surprised because our hospital class felt more like a chore to endure with lots of information that wasn’t really actionable. After the hospital class I felt like I had ticked an annoying box of doing the class we are supposed to do.
Whereas after this class I feel so much more equipped with ideas to help her cope and information that was relevant to our own decision making.
No regrets whatsoever. Worth it.”

“Thank you very much for the wonderful class on birth preparation. Adrian and I learned so much, and it was especially great for him to understand how he can be helpful during labour and birth, as that was of concern to him. We loved the fact that we always felt like no question was silly and you really took your time to explain.”
